The inaugural Cakemantle was held at UDLA yesterday – and what a delicious and delightful assault on the senses it was.
Fifteen incredible cakes depicting a wide range of Fremantle places, buildings and landscapes. Three dedicated judges (including UDLA Director Scott Lang), who carried out their duties diligently. And a room full of onlookers, who became cake eaters once judging was complete and the winners announced.
Two UDLA team members entered cakes. Lize Lawson (with Bella Davis) made the ‘best ship in the port – Wallenius Wilhelmsen’, and Nicole Baruela Ayathuray (with Bonnie) made a verge cake inspired by Valley Verges, complete with candied critters in the ‘soil’.
We loved all the entries, with special mentions to Four Landscape Studio for their expertly made Terrazzo Cake, and to Josh Byrne & Associates for their tasty provocation on regeneration.
Big congratulations to Loren and Rosie, Cakemantle’s organisers – we’re already looking forward to the next one.
Finally, the biggest applause goes to all the cake makers. So much care and time went into your creations, and the event wouldn’t have happened without them.
