Case Study: gold street community park
A shared approach to a community space
The challenge:
A lack of funding for much needed upgrades to a local park to meet community needs.
The solution:
A facilitated, participatory design and implementation process driven by the community and in collaboration with the local authority.
The outcome:
A unique facility purpose built for local community needs, over which the local community felt a very strong sense of ownership. This sense of ownership was a critical outcome for the City and already has shown significant savings in terms of ongoing maintenance, mostly due to community members taking the initiative and responsibility for the maintenance of reticulation, lawn quality, tree planting, play equipment maintenance and lighting.
