THE CHALLENGE:
To upgrade the main pedestrian gateway to Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.
THE SOLUTION:
The creation of a flexible pedestrianised space that is anchored by the Bon Scott Memorial statue.
THE OUTCOME:
The revitalisation of the Bon Scott Statue Precinct has eked out a pedestrian friendly space with a range of amenity, in an area which what was hard up against the Fishing Boat Harbour and Mews Road. The main point of entry to reach the waterfront of the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour now feels generous and comfortable, providing a fitting first impression for visitors, and an iconic Fremantle location.
The precinct flows seamlessly between a range of existing and new materials, tying the boardwalk in to a plaza space with a new dual-level deck able to be used as a stage and seating, featuring the cast bronze Bon Scott statue by Fremantle artist Greg James. A small oval of turf is encircled by a custom timber seat proving a safe space place for children to play whilst still maintaining the precincts’ permeability.
