Birragun Buru – Palmer Road Residential Estate

UDLA were engaged by Nyamba Buru Yawuru to provide large scale landscape planning, public art facilitation, community engagement and landscape architectural services associated with Birragun Biru – Palmer Road Residential Development.  Birragun Buru, which means bush place in Yawuru language, is a development consisting of housing lots, a park, vegetated swales and public art  The layout and detailed design elements of Birragun Buru were developed through a design facilitation process with Yawuru, the Traditional Custodians.

The local UDLA team liased with artists Nagula Jardu throughout. UDLA collaborated with Yawuru artists, Nagula Jarndu, to represent a dreaming story that runs through this site.  Nagula Jarndu created other art pieces, including the entry statement and tree rings, to explain local bush foods and their traditional uses.

    • Large scale landscape plan to residential, verge and POS areas; and
    • Maximised community value through an engaged design process and continued facilitated discussion with Traditional Custodians and local authorities.
