Woodman Point Ammo Jetty design taken to next stage

We’re pleased to see that UDLA’s design for the landscape associated with the new jetty at Woodman Point is getting taken to detailed design – one step closer to its realisation and new life for future generations.

Ammo Jetty, located within the City of Cockburn, is a popular spot for diving, fishing, swimming and recreation. The jetty is a valued piece of coastal infrastructure that has deteriorated over time and has reached the end of its intended life. UDLA and Zacor Design were initially engaged by the Department of Transport to, in collaboration with a working group, design three concepts for a new jetty and related landscape amenity to provide all users with a safe and recreational facility. These concepts were presented to the public and the resulting community feedback was used to design a hybrid final concept.

The final concept design features a 50 metre long, three-metre-wide T-head that provides extensive space to fish in deep water – more than doubling what’s there currently. The new design also provides safe separation between divers and fishers, with a wide main deck that, combined with lower level platforms, improves access to the water for swimmers and divers. Additional to its purpose as a platform for varied recreational activities, this deck doubles as an element that provides vital shade to the retained jetty piles and marine biota below – shade which is vital to the biota’s continued life. The suite of visualisation material for this concept design was an important part of the process – the renders, drawings and fly-through becoming an communication tool to garner community understanding and, ultimately, support.

Thank you to the Department of Transport for having us on board for this project to date. We’re excited to see its next stage come to life.
