GRAPHIC DESIGNER

UDLA is a leading Western Australian cross-disciplinary design studio with a focus on Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. With combined expertise in design, strategy, and engagement, and projects that span multiple scales and contexts, the UDLA team develops built and strategic outcomes that respond to complex challenges. We are currently looking for a talented part-time Graphic Designer (between 3-4 days per week) to join our growing team in Fremantle. Working primarily with UDLA’s Design Communications Director, the Graphic Designer will contribute to both projects and practice communications, as described below.

JOB DESCRIPTION

When working as part of project teams, the Graphic Designer will work across the development of concepts, wayfinding, environmental graphics and signage strategies. The successful candidate will be involved through all aspects of UDLA’s design process, including research, concept design, design development and documentation. A proven track record in the design of signage, environmental graphics and wayfinding systems will be highly regarded.

When working within Practice Communications, the Graphic Designer will be instrumental in the implementation and ongoing development and upkeep of UDLA’s Practice Style Guide, which will include the management of Adobe Creative Suite templates and CC Libraries, as well as Microsoft Office templates. They will also contribute to the design and application of practice communications across a variety of mediums.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will work across a broad range of projects and types at any one time. Key responsibilities include:

• Project-related: Develop concepts, graphics, photo visualisations, mock-ups, layouts and artworks related to wayfinding, interpretation, signage and environmental graphic design projects

• Project-related: Presentation of final assets/deliverables, transmittal of artwork and documentation

• Practice-related: Implementing UDLA’s Practice Style Guide and suite of graphic templates

• Practice-related: Preparing content for UDLA’s digital communication channels, including website and social media

• Practice-related: Contribute to UDLA’s internal communications, to bolster the practice brand and help to grow the business when opportunities arise

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

To be considered, the successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor of Design, Graphic Design, Communication, Visual Communication or equivalent

• Minimum 3-5 years’ industry experience and/or significant graphic design studio experience

• Ability to fluently communicate ideas, both verbally and visually

• Excellent written communication skills, including proofing, spelling and grammar

• Ability to set clear project deliverables and manage resources to ensure these are achieved in an accurate and timely manner

• Exceptional attention to detail

• Full proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and CC Libraries

• Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel

• Experience with the development and/or maintenance of a suite of graphic templates

• Experience in a built environment or multidisciplinary design company highly regarded

• Ability to develop and coordinate built signage and environmental graphics (hardware and construction detail) highly advantageous
